DBasia.news – Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, Leonardo revealed that his club has made a mistake by selling two of its players to the Premiere League team. PSG, who last season were Champions League finalists, struggled to win this season, after losing to Manchester United and RB Leipzig.
PSG has changed a lot since last summer with the departure of two senior players Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva. Cavani finished his contract and moved to Manchester United, while Thiago Silva went to Chelsea.
“For a moment, we wanted to say ‘what have we done?’. We spoke clearly to them. It was a moment where we couldn’t give them what they wanted,” said Leonardo as quoted by the Daily Star, Wednesday (11/11).
Leonardo revealed that he is unable to contain the important player due to generational and financial problems. The club, he continued, began to want to rely on Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe, a decision he admitted was difficult to take.
“Besides, we arguably made a mistake,” he stated.
Cavani’s first goal came during a match against Everton last weekend, thanks to an assist from Bruno Fernandes. The Portugal international actually had a chance to score. But he chose to give the ball to Cavani.
“For the striker it is important to score goals for his confidence. He will be important for us and the first goal will give him confidence,” added Fernandes.
