DBasia.news – Scotland was made unmoved by the Czech Republic in the first match of Group D of Euro 2020 at Hampden Park, Monday (14/06) night WIB. Czechs won 2-0 through two goals (brace) by Patrik Schick.
The game
Supported by the home fans at Hampden Park, Scotland played with high determination from the start with Steve Clarke’s 3-5-2 tactic, relying on Ryan Christie and Lyndon Dykes up front.
However, the defense of the Czech Republic is still difficult to penetrate. In addition to goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik performing well, Czech’s defense raised by Tomas Kalas was also strong, especially because ot were covered by Tomas Soucek.
A number of opportunities were created and forced David Marshall (Scottish goalkeeper) and Vaclik to make saves. The Czech Republic did not play aggressively, but played efficiently and relied on set pieces to the ball.
Scotland was heartbroken just before halftime. In the 42nd minute Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick defeated Liam Cooper and Grant Hanley when he met Vladimir Coufal’s cross. Czechs lead 1-0.
Che Adams entered early in the second half to replace Ryan Christie in Scotland’s side. But instead of scoring they actually trailed far from Schick’s second goal in the 52nd minute of an unexpected situation.
Scotland’s play built by Jack Hendry was stopped by Soucek, the ball was snatched by Schick and he kicked the ball from the middle of the field and Marshall failed to prevent the ball that came into the net. Czech Republic ahead 2-0.
The game entered the last 15 minutes and there has been no goal from Scotland. A number of substitutions have been made by both teams, Clarke has even used five substitutions by playing Adams, Kevin Nisbet, James Forrest, Callum McGregor, and Ryan Fraser.
No more goals were created until added time plus five minutes in the second half ended. Czech Republic beat Scotland 2-0.
