DBasia.news – Former Arsenal player, Paul Merson, commented on the North London Derby match which ended in a 2-2 draw between Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur. Merson was not impressed with Arsenal and saw that the team did not develop under the direction of Unai Emery.
Merson stated that Arsenal’s progress was very small, it could even be said to be in stand still. Even Merson said that currently Arsenal are being held by “Unai Wenger”.
Merson’s opinion is somewhat different from most who say Emery has made improvements. This can be seen from the entry of top players like Nicolas Pepe in the transfer market.
However, Merson assess that today Arsenal was no different at the end of the Arsene Wenger era. The match against Tottenham is made an example by Paul Merson.
“The North London Derby is an interesting spectacle. A good match. But is there anything different from Arsenal? I don’t think so,” Merson told Sky Sports. “Nothing has changed. It’s as if Unai Wenger is training Arsenal at the moment.”
“Every time Tottenham striked back, they seem to be making a goal. That’s how opened Arsenal’s (defense) is. The problems in Arsenal’s midfield are very serious,” Merson said.
“There are three defensive midfielders on the pitch, but each time striking back, Tottenham can freely move at the Emirates. I can not believe what I see. It’s like when Arsenal was handled by Arsene Wenger,” added Merson.
Arsenal will return to compete after the international break. They will fight Watford before undergoing a solid agenda to face the game against Eintracht Frankfurt (Europa League), Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest (League Cup), and Manchester United.
