Pep Guardiola Commenting on the Making of the European Super League Discourse

DBasia.news –  Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, disagrees with the discourse of forming the European Super League. Guardiola believes that it will only damage the essence of the local league.

The discourse of the formation of the European Super League has been around since 2018. Allegedly Bayern Munich and Bayern President Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will begin the creation of the league.

Guardiola is one of the great figures of European football who is worried about the discourse. The local league will be destroyed if the European Super League exists.

“I don’t agree with that idea (rival league). Someone should explain to me (why it’s called a good idea),” Guardiola said, quoted by Goal.

“If that happens then we will all kill the league. If Barca and Madrid go there and they don’t play against Espanyol, who will join the league? The Spanish league will die.”

“In England, they are very smart, the playing field in the fourth division is always full. England will not let the local essence of football die,” he stressed.

Guardiola already has full confidence not to support the European Super League. He praised the Champions League format better than discussing the European Super League.

“Part of the greatness of the Champions League is that matches are not played every Sunday. If matches are played every week then it will lose interest,” added Guardiola.

“Barcelona vs Espanyol is very necessary and important for the city, then the more Catalan teams in La Liga, the better.”

“If we all kill domestic leagues, no one will be interested in watching teams that have no chance to play in European leagues,” he concluded.
