DBasia.news – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola mentioned a club that he considered the strongest competitor in the race for the Premier League trophy this season. The club is Tottenham, who beat their troops 0-2.
City suffered a 0-2 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday (22/11), a result that made them sit 11th in the standings. City are eight points behind the Spurs, who currently sit at the top.
Guardiola says that Jose Mourinho’s Spurs deserve to be considered title contenders. “They are at the top of the standings. So obviously they are more competitive than anyone at the moment,” said Guardiola as quoted by Goal.
“Of course, there are a lot of points to play, we are eight points behind, we have one game less, but there are many teams ahead of us. We have to start winning games, otherwise it will happen, we know that. We have to try to win the match, we know that.”
“In terms of play, I think we are not far away, but now we are struggling to score goals, and this is not a task for one person or another. That is the fact, 10 goals, is not good enough,” said Guardiola.
Guardiola thinks this season could be the most open title race since he arrived in England. “Yes, the first year, I remember Chelsea, at first it was very tight, but in the end they took advantage. The second, and third and fourth seasons were very clear for City twice and Liverpool once,” he said.
City’s 12 points from eight games is the lowest in the Premier League since 2008-09, when they collected just 10 points. In addition to only scoring ten goals in eight games, City are also carving out their worst goalscoring record since scoring just six goals in the same number of games in 2006-07.
