DBasia.news – The unique story in football is always another interesting side besides the match. The same goes for former England and Liverpool striker, Peter Crouch to Real Madrid left-back, Marcelo.
It started at the meeting between Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur in 2011 in the Champions League. Crouch had an unpleasant moment as within 15 minutes he had received a red card from the accumulation of two yellow cards.
The first yellow card was received in the fifth minute for his foul on Sergio Ramos, then the second yellow card after fouling Marcelo. It was on the second yellow card that Crouch did not accept the referee’s decision.
According to Crouch in the podcast “From the Horse’s Mouth” Marcelo exaggerates the situation with the drama convincing the referee. Crouch was so upset with the Brazilian player at that time that he wanted to kick him.
“The first (yellow) card was fair. But the second, no, the second was Marcelo’s fault. I didn’t even touch him, but he was flying in the air,” Crouch said.
“Then he rolled and when the ref brought out his second yellow he started jumping for joy. I never wanted to kick someone as hard as Marcelo on that occasion. I was naive.”
After playing with 10 players Tottenham lost 0-1 to Madrid through a goal from Emmanuel Adebayor. Crouch felt guilty because of the red card.
“The locker room is under the stadium and there are rows of fans above it,” added Crouch explaining the situation. “I was in the locker room with a towel over my head and I could hear every goal being celebrated, I felt it was all my fault.”
Madrid made it to the semifinals with a 4-0 total on aggregate against Spurs, but in the semifinals they lost to Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona who was going crazy with their tiki-taka game and then won the Champions League after winning 3-1 over Manchester United in the final.
In his career Peter Crouch has almost won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2007. Crouch defended the Reds in mid-2005-2008.
