DBasia.news – Philippe Coutinho said he had to return home before returning to Barcelona from his loan contract at Bayern Munich.
Coutinho completed his loan contract at Bayern Munich by winning the Champions League trophy after a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final on Monday (24/8).
In the final match, Kingsley Coman’s single goal with a header in the second half was enough to bring Bayern into European champions.
Although he will return to Barcelona, the Brazilian player is said to be leaving Camp Nou permanently this summer.
Coutinho, who appeared as a substitute against PSG, wants to have a strong 2020/21 season, but he doesn’t know where it will go.
“I haven’t thought about that. I have to come back and I want to work hard to have a great year,” Coutinho told Movistar+.
“I don’t know if [it will be] in Barcelona.”
Coutinho scored twice as Bayern thrashed Barcelona 8-2 in the quarter-finals. Azulgrana was without a title in the 2019/20 season, while Bayern won the treble winners.
With the defeat at the hands of Bayern, PSG failed to win their first Champions League title. Even so, Coutinho praised his compatriot, Neymar, who shed tears after the match.
“I told him that he’s had a great season and he will fight for this and be the best in the world,” said Coutinho again.
Before the final match, Coutinho was asked about his future, but he admitted that he only focused on the match against PSG.
“My mind is completely on this competition. This is a unique opportunity for us. I am very happy to be in the Champions League final,” Coutinho told Esporte Interativo.
“About the future, I haven’t thought about it because I only think about the final.”
Throughout the 2019/20 season, Coutinho scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in various competitions.
