Pogba Doesn’t Need Captain Ban to Love MU

DBasia.news – Amid the rumor of Paul Pogba’ exit from Manchester United, Jose Mourinho made a decision considered right by fans and football experts, to appoint Pogba as the team captain during the match against Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Pogba led Man United to win the match with the 2-1 score during the first week of 2018-2019 Premier League through his penalty kick, and another goal from Luke Shaw. The 25-year-old midfielder was chosen to be the captain due to Antonio Valencia’s injury, hence the public agreed.

The decision of Man United’s captain considered as Mourinho’s strategy to keep Pogba from leaving the club during the remaining summer transfer market. As known before, Pogba and Mourinho’s relationship wasn’t good following the argument of the player position last season, triggered the rumor to join Barcelona.

Pogba gladly took the position, since he came from Man United academy. Moreover, Man United had great captains like Eric Cantona, Bryan Robson, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, and Ryan Giggs.

“I always love the club. I love the club. I came in the academy, I grew up. I came from the academy, I played for the first team. For me, it was a dream come true. And wearing this, it’s even more because of the past, because of the players that played here, the people that have been wearing this. It’s obviously an honor for me. Like I said, when I have this, I have the confidence of the fans,” Pogba told Goal.

They’re all here, they help me, my teammates, obviously it makes me want to give them love and give them good performances on the pitch,” Pogba continued.

However, Pogba emphasized that he doesn’t need a ban captain to be the leader in United. He admitted that he learned a lot from the previous leaders in the past in United and Juventus.

“When I was first at United, Rio Ferdinand was captain and Patrice Evra too. Then I went to Juventus and Giorgio Chiellini was a captain, Buffon was a captain. When I was younger Michael Carrick was sometimes a captain as well. I learned from all of them, but I don’t think being in leadership there is a book how to become one,” Pogba added.

“It’s not just about having the armband. I have always been talking to my team-mates. It’s not a role that I give to myself. I just try to help the team as much as possible, like they helped me too,” he explained.
