Pogba’s Hard Tackle in the Match against Wolves Reaps Controversy

DBasia.news – Manchester United successfully won full points when they traveled to Wolverhampton Wanderers headquarters in the 2021-2022 Premier League continued. But the Red Devils’ victory was colored by a polemic against Paul Pogba’s hard tackle.

In the match that took place at Molineux Stadium, Sunday (29/8), Manchester United closed the match with a 1-0 win. Mason Greenwood became a hero through his goal in the 80th minute.

Greenwood fired a low shot from the right that Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa couldn’t anticipate. It was his third goal in the first three Premier League games for 2021-2022.

But controversy occurred in the process of the goal. The Wolves camp assessed that there was a violation first when Pogba tackled Ruben Neves.

The host players immediately surrounded Mike Dean as the referee on duty. Neves even showed his protective foot slid in a sign of a Pogba tackle.

But Mike Dean still approved Greenwood’s goal. He even gave a yellow card to Neves for excessive protest.

After the game, Neves again protested Dean’s decision. But the judge remained unmoved.

“We always have meetings and everything with the referees about VAR. They said before the season started they would look for contacts who were strong enough to give fouls,” said Neves after the game.

“After the game he (Mike Dean) stated that Pogba and I were both fighting for the ball. But it was a clear foul because I got the ball.”

“I showed my feet to the referee and the assistant referee. I can’t say anything else,” he added.

Neves also mentioned a similar incident that happened to Bruno Fernandes during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton last week. The referee seemed to want to make amends and Wolves were victims.

Pogba’s response

Neves’ confession made Pogba disturbed. He felt he didn’t touch it so it wasn’t a violation.

“I didn’t touch him (Rúben Neves). This is the Premier League where it’s 50-50 every weekend that happens,” Pogba said.

“We won the ball and we scored the goal.”

Despite this controversy, Manchester United were made to suffer by the Wolves resistance. The hosts could even have stolen a point if David De Gea didn’t perform well in goal.
