DBasia.news – Despite losing 2-1 to Ukraine in the 2020 European Championship Qualification match on Tuesday (10/15) AM, Portugal national team player, Cristiano Ronaldo, managed to set a new record throughout his career. He successfully scored his 700th goal for the Portugal national team, and became the sixth player to score 700 goals.
The winner of five Ballon D’Or converted a penalty in the 72nd minute after the Ukrainan player did a handball in the restricted area.
Ronaldo became the sixth player to record the achievement, following former German striker, Gerd Muller, and Hungarian legend, Ferenc Puskas, the Brazilian duo, Pele and Romario, and the Czech Republic’s, Josef Bican.
The only other player who is still active and approaching the 700 mark is Barcelona and Argentina player, Lionel Messi, who has collected 672 goals.
Ronaldo, 34, has made his international debut at the age of 18 in a 1-0 win over Kazakhstan on August 20, 2003, and scored his first goal in the opening match of Euro 2004, where Portugal lost 2-1 to Greece who came out as champions.
At club level, Ronaldo has scored five goals for Sporting CP, 118 with Manchester United, a record at Real Madrid with 450 goals, and 32 for his current club, Juventus.
At the international level, Ronaldo has contributed 95 goals, only losing to Ali Daei who has collected 109 for the Iranian national team.
However, a number of media reports that Ronaldo has reached 700 goals last Friday (11/10) after his goal in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Luxembourg.
The difference occurred as a goal against Real Sociedad in 2011 was recognized by compatriot, Pepe, to help Ronaldo in the race for El Pichichi against Messi in that season. However, most statistics do not consider these goals belong to Ronaldo.
