DBasia.news – When Lionel Messi stated his intention to leave Barcelona in the transfer market this season, a number of clubs were immediately linked to him. Some of them are Manchester City, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Messi had caused an uproar in the transfer market this summer after his desire to leave Barcelona became known to the public. This was leaked to the media a few days after the Blaugrana were massacred by Bayern Munich with a score of 2-8 in the 2019-2020 Champions League quarter-finals.

Messin even asked Barcelona to release him for free. La Pulga adheres to one of the clauses in his contract.

The news on Messi wanting to leave Barcelona for free is certainly welcomed by other top European clubs. It seemed like amazing news as they might be able to obtain the Argentine megastar without spending a penny.

Manchester City and Inter Milan are said to be the two clubs that are most interested in Messi. They are even reported to have established communication with the player’s agent and father.

Unfortunately, Messi’s move in the end did not materialize or was delayed. Barcelona were reluctant to release him for free with strong arguments, which made the 33-year-old player changed his mind.

Interestingly, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was also interested in chasing down Messi. This was revealed by sporting director, Leonardo.

“When we were told that Messi wanted to leave, we were tempted. You say to yourself, is that possible?” said Leonardo to Canal.

“He is one of the players who was not involved in any negotiations at all. David Beckham ended up at Paris Saint-Germain, but did Messi end up in Paris? I don’t know.”

PSG has indeed become one of the few clubs that possess the financial strength to bring Messi in. Les Parisiens also has a track record of hijacking another Barcelona star, Neymar, for 222 million euros in 2017.

This could be a sign that PSG would target Messi next summer. At that time, the player born in Rosario will be on a free transfer.

“This is football. In the end, everyone sits at the table, everyone knows everything, and it’s moving forward.”
