DBasia.news – Mauro Icardi and Angel Di Maria scored to send Paris Saint-Germain overcoming their visitors Lille 2-0 in Week 14 of the French League at the Parc des Princes Stadium.
Icardi and Di Maria’s goals were scored in the first half, but goalkeeper Keylor Navas had to secure at least eight attempted shots on target by Lille.
The victory made PSG increasingly stable at the top of the standings with a collection of 33 points and while widening the advantage to 11 points from the nearest competitor, while Lille (19) slipped to seventh.
The match marked the return of Neymar with PSG after pulling aside for almost six weeks due to injury.
After starting the game with a fairly slow tempo, PSG opened the scoring in the 17th minute through an easy cheat Icardi welcomed a cross that failed to be swept by Lille defender Jose Fonte.
That advantage was doubled in the 31st minute when Julian Draxler’s breakthrough pass was met with one touch before lifting the ball over the head of goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The second half of the match was increasingly open and Lille got the first chance through a shot by Luiz Araujo who was unfortunately still too weak and easily secured by Navas.
In the 60th minute, Navas rescued Araujo’s hard shot.
Kylian Mbappe who just came on for Neymar in the 65th minute tried to make an instant contribution two minutes after he grazed but his shot could still be ignored by Maignan.
Score 2-0 for PSG did not change until the fight was over.
