DBasia.news – Paris Saint-Germain’s failure to maximize their chances was the main reason behind the defeat in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, said midfielder, Ander Herrera.
The Paris club was forced to surrender 1-0 at the Estadio da Luz on Monday (24/8), with French winger Kingsley Coman scoring the only goal in the 59th minute to simultaneously beat his former club.
In last night’s match, PSG missed many goalscoring opportunities, including Neymar’s one-on-one chance, while Kylian Mbappe also did not move in front of the goal.
Herrera then explained what it felt like to lose in the Champions League final and emphasized that his team actually had enough chances to win the match. He also considered PSG to have grown as a club by reaching the final of the tournament and was determined to help their progress going forward.
“Now we feel like trash,” Herrera told RMC Sport afterwards. “We have to think, think that what we have done is very important. We have created something important for the club and for the fans.
“There are no words for anyone but tomorrow, I think we have to think about what we have done for the club, that we have built something we did together. Tonight was a challenging night, just talking about it is difficult.
“We will try to get back to the final. We will not forget what we did.
“We managed to create a lot of chances, I think more than Bayern. This game, in all the finals, if you don’t score, the opposing club has a lot of quality. We created five or six chances, if you don’t score they have a lot of quality.
“We have created something we should never forget.”
This is Herrera’s first season at PSG after joining Manchester United for free on July 2019.
The former Red Devils helped his team wipe out domestic trophies including Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophee des Champions.
PSG have only six days to rest before starting Ligue 1 2020/21 against Lens on August 29.
