DBasia.news – PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) won two new goalkeepers in the transfer market this summer: Sergio Rico and Keylor Navas. While Real Madrid received Alphonse Areola.
PSG needed an experienced goalkeeper after Gianluigi Buffon and Kevin Trapp had left. Thomas Tuchel’s team first recruited Sergio Rico from Sevilla on a loan contract plus a purchase option at the end of the contract.
Rico, 26, is a Spaniard and last season was loaned by Sevilla to Fulham, the then relegated English club. Five years playing at Sevilla, Rico appeared 160 times and was in the squad that won the Europa League twice in a row in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
“I am very happy to sign a contract with Paris St-Germain. Everyone in Europe knows how much the club has grown in recent years,” Rico stated on the official PSG website.
“It is an honor to be part of this squad, including the many compatriots. I will give my maximum efforts every day to help my club achieve as much success as possible.”
Rico will compete with Keylor Navas who is six years older. A matter of experience, Navas is clearly seeded after winning three Champions League titles, four Club World Cups, two European Super Cups, one LaLiga, and the Spanish Super Cup.
According to news from L’Equipe, Navas is already in France and will soon undergo a medical test before being introduced as the new PSG recruit. Navas was allegedly chosen to leave as Zinedine Zidane had chosen Thibaut Courtois as Madrid’s main goalkeeper. Courtois will be coated with Areola.
