By db-admin

DBasia.news –  PSV Eindhoven has certainly failed to qualify for the top 16 of the Dutch cup when they lost 0-2. PSV was defeated by NAC Breda, the club playing in the second stratum on Friday.

PSV was forced to finish the match with 10 players on the field following a red card received by Timo Baumgartl in the 60th minute, the official KNVB website notes.

At that time, they were 0-1 down due to Othmane Boussaid’s goal six minutes earlier.

Inequality of the players clearly made it difficult for PSV to compensate for the host’s game and in the 73rd minute Ivan Ilic scored NAC’s second goal to ensure a 2-0 victory.

The result has made PSV the third Eredivisie team whose steps were halted in the top 16, following Heracles Almelo and Willem II. The difference, PSV was eliminated by the second stratum team, while Heracles and Almelo lost against the other highest caste teams, namely Vitesse Arnhem and SC Heerenveen.

Meanwhile in another match that also took place on Thursday evening, Go Ahead Eagles needed a penalty shootout to be able to beat IJsselmeervogels and qualify for the quarter-finals after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Penalties even have to be held until the ninth kicker before the Go Ahead Eagles ensured a 7-6 victory.

NAC and Go Ahead Eagles qualified following AZ Alkmaar, Utrecht, Vitesse, Heerenveen and defending champion, Ajax, to the quarter-finals.

Another top 16 match between Fortuna Sittard and Feyenoord will resume on Tuesday (1/28) local time after being stopped midway through the second half in the 1-1 position due to heavy fog.
