DBasia.news – There is a difference of opinion between Barcelona coach, Quique Setien and his striker, Lionel Messi. Barcelona have failed to retain the Spanish League title, which Real Madrid won. Now, the realistic target of the Catalan giants is to win the Champions League.
Barcelona had to give up the 2019-2020 LaLiga trophy won by Real Madrid after the defeat of Osasuna on Friday (17/7) AM. After the match, Messi openly criticized Blaugrana’s game.
In essence, Messi believes that Barcelona will not be able to win a single title if they do not improve their appearance. The Argentine superstar also doubts his team’s chances of progressing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season.
Shortly afterwards, Setien agreed to a number of points from Messi’s criticism. But he felt that he was still able to bring Barcelona to their feet.
A day later, Setien reiterated his argument. He claimed to have made a number of positive contributions in Barcelona’s game.
“It’s true that if we play as poorly as in the last match it will not give us what we need to win the match. But we also have the great moments we need to win the game,” said Setien in a press conference ahead of the match against Alaves.
“This is reality. If we manage to play like in the 4-1 win over Villarreal, where everything went well, it will definitely give us what we need to win the Champions League.”
The comment seemed like Setien’s self-defense. This is understandable considering that his position is on edge.
But Setien claimed to have not been offended by Messi’s criticism. He also believes that the flagship player did not intend to openly attack him.
“We can all say that (Messi’s comments) are misinterpreted and everything else is fine. We all need to rest, clear our minds and try to think of the true intentions,” he concluded.
