Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, regretted his team’s draw against Atletico Madrid. Rangnick believes Manchester United would have won if the game time was added by 10 minutes.
Manchester United had difficulties in the first half. In fact, Atletico Madrid scored a goal when the game had only been running for seven minutes. Joao Felix’s header tore through the Red Devils’ goal.
In the second half, the appearance of the Red Devils improved with several substitutions made. As a result, Man United equalized in the 80th minute through the action of Anthony Elanga.
“I’m not sure if the substitutions saved the game. After the performance in the first half, we should have played better,” said Rangnick on UEFA’s official website.
“About our performance in the first half, I still can’t believe it. We came out without the belief and aggression that we should show on the ball. Therefore, we struggled very much.”
Rangnick admitted Manchester United put up a tougher fight in the second half. In fact, he believes Man United’s second goal should be a matter of time.
“We performed better in the second half. We had the ball in important areas,” continued the tactician.
“If we had played 10 more minutes, we might have won. However, this is clearly a disappointing result considering our performance in the first half. We were too worried when we took the ball in the first half.”
Now, Manchester United must immediately shift focus to the next match versus Watford (26/2). After that, Manchester City was waiting (6/3).
