DBasia.news – The 2021-2022 season is practically over for Manchester United as the Red Devils are no longer fighting for trophies and competing for a place in the top four of the Premier League, or the Champions League zone.
Man United has not won a trophy for five consecutive seasons, most recently winning the Premier League title in 2013. Worse yet, United’s performance has not improved under the direction of interim manager, Ralf Rangnick.
United’s defense is fragile, their front lines are blunt, and United don’t have the fighting power to win the top four. In the midst of these difficulties, the management provided fortunate news by inaugurating Erik ten Hag as coach.
The 52-year-old coach will coach in the 2022-2023 season with a contract duration until 2025, plus an option to extend it for a year. Ten Hag beat Mauricio Pochettino who was previously also rumored to be a candidate for United’s coach.
It is alleged that Ten Hag was chosen as United’s coach because of Rangnick’s role, who will later become United’s consultant for the next two years. But the unique thing is that Rangnick admits that he has not met him in person.
Although he has not met him in person, Rangnick knows exactly the football that Ten Hag uses. Rangnick believes there will be improvements in United’s squad in pre-summer 2022.
“We don’t know each other in person, we haven’t met in person,” Rangnick said of Ten Hag, as reported by United’s official website.
“However, from what I’ve seen him do, both at Bayern Munich when he was the U-23 coach and at Ajax now, I like his football.
“I’m quite positive with a full pre-season, by having the opportunity to build and shape his own staff, also a new team, obviously, we will have a new team, with a full pre-season, I’m pretty sure that we will see a different team and improvement on the pitch.”
Rangnick has yet to meet Ten Hag, but he did recommend Ten Hag because of his performance so far as a coach.
“I know that Erik is one of the candidates that management is talking about,” Rangnick added.
“And obviously I told them, from what I’ve seen and know from people who have worked with Erik, that I thought he would be a good choice.”
“I still believe that he is a great choice and, everything else, so far we haven’t had time to talk about him.”
