DBasia.news – Ralf Rangnick’s contract does stay with Manchester United until the end of the 2021-2022 season as interim manager, but that doesn’t mean the German manager can’t give his advice to the Red Devils.
Moreover, Rangnick has agreed to become United’s adviser for the next two years after his contract as interim manager ends. No doubt it’s natural that Rangnick already has an idea for United’s future.
The 2021-2022 season is practically over for United who have not won a trophy for five consecutive seasons, the only thing they can pursue is trying to finish in the top four of the Premier League (Champions League zone).
Rangnick, who replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has made suggestions for United’s transfers next summer. The good thing, according to Rangnick, is that Man United recruits young players who are hungry for success and also have a desire to develop rather than signing big names.
“Obviously something needs to change, something needs to be rebuilt in the summer,” Rangnick told Sky Sports.
“The team could do with some more talented and hungry players who really want to develop their own careers.”
“I don’t think it has to be much about big-name signings. I don’t mind big names! But for me it’s important about being competitive, being hungry (a title), seeing a move to a club – and I’ve always believed in this – not just as a big contract, a big name club, but the next logical step in his career.
“If this happens then you have a completely different level of motivation, aspiration, inspiration to play for any club. That should be the main target for the summer transfer window,” said Rangnick.
Liverpool in the Jurgen Klopp era is an example of this. Rangnick has seen the changes Klopp has made since he began coaching the Reds in 2015 to winning the Champions League and Premier League.
“Look at Liverpool. When Jurgen Klopp came there five-and-a-half years ago, it was the start of the season, but they still finish eighth in the Premier League with an average of about 1.6 points.
“If you compare the line-up from that final to now, they’ve added top players in almost every transfer window.
“Players whose steps will be the next – Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Mo Salah. it’s possible, but you have to have quality and a recruiting process and players plus the best manager,” he concluded.
