Rangnick says Manchester United were disadvantaged by VAR when playing against Arsenal

DBasia.news – Manchester United Interim manager, Ralf Rangnick had difficulty to accept the defeat over Arsenal. He claimed that his team were disadvantaged by the VAR decision.

In the continued 2021-2022 Premier League match which took place at the Emirates Stadium, Saturday (23/4), Manchester United was defeated by a score of 1-3. This result almost closed the opportunity for the Red Devils to win the Champions League ticket.

Manchester United’s defense is again a weak point in this match. David De Gea’s goal was conceded in the third minute through Nuno Tavares.

Arsenal pulled away in the 32nd minute through Bukayo Saka’s controversial penalty. Previously, the referee had disallowed Eddie Nketiah’s goal for being offside before VAR noticed a foul by Alex Telles against Saka.

Manchester United got up two minutes later through Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Granit Xhaka’s rocket shot in the second half ended the visitors’ resistance.

“I felt that there were three unlucky VAR decisions. Arsenal’s third goal was clearly offside and Cristiano’s second was not offside,” Rangnick said after the game.

“We are unhappy with today’s VAR decision.”

One other VAR decision that was detrimental to Manchester United was of course when Cedric Soares’ handball was not checked by VAR. In fact, from replays it is clear that he touched the ball with his hands in the forbidden box even though he was in a fallen condition.

Rangnick himself was not completely disappointed with the performance of the players. He considered Manchester United to appear much better than when beaten by Liverpool.

“I think we showed an improvement in performance but in the end it was a disappointing result. I think we bounced back well from conceding quickly and had a lot of chances in both halves to score more goals.”
