Real Madrid Has Often Lost From Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu

Real Madrid vs Barcelona

DBasia.news –  Barcelona won 3-0 over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final leg in 2018-19 at Santiago Bernabeu, Thursday (28/2) WIB. It shows their superiority over their eternal enemies in a match titled El Clasico.

The match ended in a goalless draw in the first half and the aggregated goals were as strong as 1-1 from the first leg which took place at Camp Nou. In the second half, Ernesto Valverde successfully motivated Barca players until they scored three goals via two goals from Luis Suarez and an own goal from Raphael Varane.

Barca broke the record by redeeming the final for the sixth time in a row – four of which ended with the success of winning the Copa del Rey trophy. Not only that, Barca also made Santiago Bernabeu their ‘playground’.

Ironically in the Copa del Rey, Los Blancos never won at Santiago Bernabeu against Barcelona since 1970, when they were 2-0 up from the first leg.

Afterwards, the two clashed in the Clasico match, meeting four times at Bernabeu and three of them ended in a draw, most recently Barca won a 3-0 victory.

Furthermore, from a total of 17 Clasico at Bernabeu, Barca won once including one of the most famous in 2009. At that time, Pep Guardiola destroyed Madrid with a landslide score of 6-2.

“Reaching the sixth final … I think the thing we achieved is something that will never happen again in the Copa del Rey,” said senior Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, as quoted from Goal.

“We won a lot in the past few years, but we want to win it again. Passing the qualification to the final is something special. It actually looks like a habit than anything else. Reversing the situation against Levante and Sevilla, and now this.”

“The win was important. Madrid played better in the first half, but we took advantage of the gap in the second half to win the game. It’s a great way to reach the final. Winning here (Santiago Bernabeu) and reaching the final always brings happiness,” explained Pique.

If Barcelona were back in the Copa del Rey championship this season, they would set a record as the only team that won it five times in a row.

Athletic Club Bilbao, Sevilla and Deportivo Alaves were victims of Barcelona in the four Copa del Rey finals. This season, Lionel Messi and mates have the potential to compete against Valencia or Real Betis.
