Real Madrid Target FC Barcelona Former Striker

David Villa

DBasia.news –  Real Madrid are still looking for the top-scorer player. Sport-English reported Los Merengues are eyeing the 36-year-old striker David Villa and consider him as the right short-term solution for the squad.

As we know, Villa decided to end his career with New York City FC this year after four years. Villa left after scoring 80 goals from 124 matches in Major League Soccer (MLS).

“I can only say thank you, thank you to everybody. First, to City Football Group that gave me the opportunity to come here. To NYCFC and MLS for accepting me. To everybody at the club who helped me day by day,” Villa said recently.

“I remember the first day I showed the jersey and the supporters were there. I would have liked to give the supporters the MLS Cup, but I don’t have any doubts that in the next years the club will get it for sure,” he continued.

Villa moved, but he isn’t retiring yet. Madrid see him as the temporary solution to support the team in scoring the goal because they are too dependant on Karim Benzema and haven’t found the successor of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Indeed, Villa is no longer young. However, he has the quality in Europe football. Villa once played for Real Zaragoza (2003-2005), Valencia (2005-2010), Barcelona (2010-2013), and Atletico Madrid (2013-2014). So, he doesn’t need to adapt if returning to Spain.

Los Blancos want to sign him freely on January during the winter transfer market. He also achieved the 2008 Europe Cup and 2010 World Cup with 98 caps and 59 goals with Spain national team.

“I feel like the end of an era has come and that I need to look for a new challenge,” Villa concluded.
