DBasia.news – The decision not to play Mesut Ozil lately, according to Unai Emery, came after all parties agreed not to play it at Arsenal.
Throughout this season, Mesut Ozil recorded only two appearances to strengthen Arsenal in all competitions. Ozil hasn’t even been in the squad since last September.
Although there have been many voices asking to play Ozil, Emery still closed the reason for “alienating” the German attacking midfielder. However, Emery stressed that his decision had received the blessing and support of all parties at the club.
“Here, we have a strategy as a club and a team. Because the most important thing is the club, the team and gets good performances,” Emery was quoted as saying by The Guardian.
“Previously, we all had discussions to make that decision. I understand the supporters wanted to know (the reasons), but not for now. I don’t think it’s time to talk about him.”
Previously, Ozil had expressed frustration with the situation he faced.
“If we don’t play well in big games then it’s always my fault. But if it’s true, then how do you explain some of the bad results in games that I don’t play? It doesn’t make sense,” Ozil said in an interview with The Athletic.
Ozil also stressed that soccer is played collectively, not individuals. So, every time the team plays poorly it happens because of a shared mistake.
“I know people expect me to give better and make a difference. But it’s not that simple. I’m not the only one. I play for the team. Sometimes, rivals are better than us,” Ozil added.
