Rennes’s 2-1 win over Saint-Etienne thanks to a late goal

DBasia.news –  In the 15th week of the French League match, a last-minute goal won Rennes 2-1 over Saint-Etienne who visited Roazhon Park Stadium on Sunday (1/12) local time.

Coming from behind due to Lois Diony’s goal, Rennes retaliated through Raphinha before Damien da Silva’s goal in the third minute of injury time sealed their win, according to the official French League website.

Despite winning, Rennes did not move from 11th place standings with 21 points, but they succeeded in making Saint-Etienne fell to the ninth position.

Match statistics show Rennes successfully optimized the status of the host by owning 54 percent and trying to convert it through 14 attempted shots, five of which met the target.

In contrast, Saint-Etienne only released five attempted shots throughout the match and the only one who met the target was born from a close-range strike from Diony in the 19th minute from a corner kick which turned into a goal and put them ahead of the hosts.

However, the advantage was only six minutes old because a Rennes quick counterattack ended by Romain del Castillo’s pass was successfully completed well by Raphinha to change the position to a 1-1 draw.

Since then Rennes has been trying to turn things around but the opportunities for the opportunities they create are often wasted.

In the 53rd minute, for example, Hamari Traore released a cross which was met by Adrien Hunou, but the header was off the thin side of the goal, as was Jordan Siebatcheu’s header in the 65th minute.

Rennes’s hard work finally paid off in the third minute of injury time when Benjamin Bourigeaud’s corner was headed by Da Silva to break through Saint-Etienne’s goal while ensuring a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Both teams will undergo the 16th match which will be held midweek on Wednesday (4/12) local time or Thursday (5/12) early morning Western Indonesian Time when Rennes travels to Olympique Lyon headquarters, while Saint-Etienne hosts OGC Nice.
