DBasia.news – The issue about 2018 Copa Libertadores final round is still under discussion. Both River Plate and Boca Juniors refused the plan to conduct the match at Santiago Bernabeu.
As a matter of fact, the 2018 Copa Libertadores final round supposed to be conducted at El Monumental, River Plate home. However, there was an incident before the match.
At that time, River Plate fans attacked Boca Juniors bus. They threw rocks, bottles, and a smoke bomb hence the postponed match.
Some Boca Juniors players got injured and rushed to the nearest hospital.
After a couple of times, CONMEBOL decided to conduct the final match outside Argentina and chose Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Apparently, both Boca Juniors and River Plate don’t agree of that decision. They think CONMEBOL took the decision without their consents.
Boca Juniors feel that they could win the Copa Libertadores after River Plate failed to conduct the match at the designated date. They proposed the appeal.
“Boca Juniors informs that it does not share their reasoning and considers it clearly contrary to the Regulations and jurisprudential precedents, for which the corresponding appeals will be filed before the Chamber of Appeals of the Conmebol and, eventually, before the Arbitration Court of Sport,” said the official statement from Boca Juniors.
“The club insists that having been proven with conclusive evidence, the brutal attack on the team bus suffered on November 24, 2018, in the vicinity of the entrance gate of the Monumental stadium, there is no other sanction than the one requested in our presentations,” the statement continued.
On the other hand, River Plate also refused the plan to conduct the match at Spain and submitted the request to CONMEBOL.
“River Plate informed to take the appeal action for CONMEBOL’s decision. We refuse the change of 2018 Copa Libertadores venue,” River Plate stated.
The first leg was conducted at Boca Juniors home. At that time, River Plate played draw 2-2 against the host and have bigger chance to be the champion.
