Roberto Mancini Talks about His Future after Italy Failed to Qualify for the World Cup

DBasia.news – Roberto Mancini was asked about his future as coach of the Italian national team, after failing to lead his team to the 2022 World Cup finals.

Gli Azzurri failed to reach the World Cup finals for the second edition in a row, after being beaten by a shock by North Macedonia with a score of 0-1, Friday (25/3).

Aleksandar Trajkovski’s goal in injury time at the Stadio Renzo Barbera repeated bad memories when Italy were eliminated by Sweden in the 2018 World Cup play-offs.

At that time, Giampiero Ventura quickly became a public enemy and was immediately fired as coach. But Roberto Mancini’s situation now looks different, because he was previously a hero who presented the 2020 World Cup trophy.

Unfortunately, this is still considered a tragedy for Italian football, and Mancini’s future is still in question after this.

“Just as the European Cup was an extraordinary experience in my life, this is the biggest disappointment. We can’t say anything, this is football, sometimes extraordinary things happen,” said Mancio after the game at Barbera.

“We shouldn’t have been here from the start, but we did everything we could to win and it’s hard to even talk about it.”

Despite failing miserably at the World Cup, Mancini hopes that this failure will not nullify the Azzurri’s success in winning the European Cup.

“The European Cup win was deserved, we played well. Then the luck we had in that tournament turned into incredible misfortune, like unbelievable things happened after September,” he said.

“We’ll see [about my future]. I think everyone is too disappointed to talk about the future right now.”
