DBasia.news – Romelu Lukaku will certainly not be involved when Chelsea travel to Leicester City on Saturday (20/11). The striker is still recovering from the ankle injury he sustained a month ago.
The 28-year-old injured his ankle against Malmo in the Champions League in October and has now missed five Blues games in all competitions.
Romelu Lukaku posted a photo of himself appearing to have returned to the training pitch earlier this week, prompting Chelsea fans to expect him to be involved for this weekend’s clash, but manager Thomas Tuchel has now confirmed otherwise.
The German said that Lukaku was very close to returning to play, but the Leicester City game was not the right time for him, while he also confirmed the same for Mateo Kovacic.
“I can tell you that Mateo Kovacic and Romelu are still out for tomorrow,” Tuchel said at his press conference on Friday (11/19) yesterday.
“Romelu is close to team training so hopefully he will join the squad on Sunday (21/11), he is trying hard to get back as soon as possible.”
“For Kovacic, it will take even longer until he is ready and he will miss more games.”
Better news comes from Timo Werner. The German striker also picked up an injury against Malmo last month but appears to have recovered from a hamstring problem.
“Timo is in team training since yesterday, we will see again because we have another training session in two hours,” said Tuchel.
“So maybe he can be in the squad or the bench.”
