DBasia.news – After a season of moving to Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku finally chose to return to Inter Milan. But that didn’t take the other players by surprise.
Lukaku had disappointed Inter fans after asking to leave for Chelsea ahead of the 2021-2022 season. Even though he was at that time La Beneamata’s mainstay striker.
Inter management in the end couldn’t prevent Lukaku’s departure. But city rivals AC Milan made a profit of 115 million euros from the sale.
Many predict Inter will be in trouble after being left by Lukaku. Moreover, they first lost Antonio Conte.
But Inter in reality arestill able to compete in the title race. Simone Inzaghi as the coach managed to anticipate Lukaku’s departure well despite losing the Scudetto title.
Elsewhere, Lukaku actually experienced challenging times at Chelsea. He failed to perform optimally under the care of Thomas Tuchel.
Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic also monitors Lukaku’s situation at Chelsea. Therefore he was not surprised when he saw the Belgian striker finally return to Inter.
“Lukaku’s return is not surprising. I saw how he was at Chelsea and heard his famous interviews and makes you feel melancholy and nostalgic,” Handanovic told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Lukaku did create an uproar during an interview with Sky Sports. He openly criticized Tuchel’s tactics and expressed a desire to return to Inter.
The controversial interview had made Lukaku frozen from the Chelsea first team. But he finally got the chance to play again until the end of the season.
“You always have to know which changing room you are going to and Rom knows that our dressing room is healthy, cheerful, positive,” he added.
Interestingly, Handanovic was not angry with Lukaku’s decision to leave Inter. He could accept the reason for the big attacker.
“In life you often choose economic reasons at first, but then happiness always takes over. If you’re happy on the one hand, it’s understandable that you want to come back.”
