Romelu Lukaku Successfully Breaks Cristiano Ronaldo’s Record

DBasia.news – Inter Milan started 2021 on a positive note. Entertaining Crotone in Week 15 of Serie A, Sunday (03/01) evening WIB, Il Nerazzurri won 6-2 at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Lautaro Martinez scored a hat trick of goals (20 ‘, 57’, 78 ‘), then other goals were scored by own goals from Luca Marrone (31’), Romelu Lukaku (64 ‘), Achraf Hakimi (87’). Two of Crotone’s goals were scored by Niccolo Zanellatto (12 ‘) and Vladimir Golemic (36’ penalty).

Inter are temporarily at the top of the standings and two points adrift of AC Milan in second place. Antonio Conte is pleased with the character his team is showing in the race for the 2020-2021 Scudetto.

“There was a good response today and I feel we started the right way by being aggressive. Crotone pushed seven players up and surprised us,” Conte told Sky Sport Italia.

“We did well to turn things around, then a naive mistake on the penalty could spark anxiety, but the players did really well to stay focused, keep creating goalscoring opportunities and bringing home another win.”

According to Opta Paolo Inter is the first team to score at least six goals in the first game at the start of the new year. The last team to do so was Fiorentina against Udinese in 1959.

Apart from that record, there are also other special records. Romelu Lukaku, as quoted from Squawka, has scored 50 goals in all Italian football competitions.

Lukaku has only done so in a span of 70 games and has become the fastest player to reach it in club history. The Belgian striker joined Inter in 2019 and through Ronaldo’s record score of 50 goals in 77 matches with Juventus.

Lukaku entered the elite club with the most goals in 50 Serie A matches under Ronaldo (40 goals), Ronaldo (38 goals), Andriy Shevchenko (37 goals), Diego Milito (37 goals), Vincenzo Montella (36 goals), and Lukaku with 35 goals.

Lukaku’s vital role has been increasingly seen this season with his 12th goal in Serie A. Lukaku has been directly involved in 15 of Inter’s goals and more than any other player: 14 games, 12 goals, three assists. He is without a doubt Inter’s best signing in the Conte era.
