Ronaldo Talks about Chances to Equal Daei’s Record at Euro 2020

DBasia.news – Cristiano Ronaldo has the opportunity to equal the goal record of Iranian football legend Ali Daei at Euro 2020. He said the record was not important but Portugal’s victory.

Ronaldo has scored 104 goals since making his Portugal debut in 2003. The 36-year-old footballer is only five goals away from Ali Daei’s record (109), which is the most international goals scored in the history of football.

Portugal will open its work at Euro 2020 by facing host Hungary in the first match of Group F, Tuesday (15/6/2021). If Ronaldo can break into the Hungarian goal, then breaking Ali Daei’s record will be easier to realize.

However, Ronaldo insists chasing Ali Daei’s record is not his priority. “Records will come by themselves, records are not a goal,” he said.

“If I score in tomorrow’s game, I will be happy because it is a sign that we are a little closer to the title. The most important thing is to win, while records can come later.”

The match against Hungary will mark the two teams’ first meeting since Portugal narrowly won 1-0 in Budapest in a European Cup Qualifier in 2017.

“It will be a difficult game against a team playing at home in front of a full stadium. But the most important thing for us is to be ourselves, stay concentrated, focused and play with a positive spirit and everything will be fine,” he continued.

“We are all ready and tomorrow I hope we can start on the right path. It is important to start with a win,” concluded Cristiano Ronaldo.
