Rooney Talks about Ten Hag and Pochettino’s Chances at Manchester United

DBasia.news – Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are now the two main candidates to become Manchester United manager. If you have to choose, Wayne Rooney has a hero between the two.

Manchester United’s hunt for a new permanent manager is entering its final phase. The figure who will lead Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends is planned to be known at the end of this month.

Manchester United officials have interviewed a number of names. Pochettino and Ten Hag were in it.

However, many believe that Ten Hag is at the forefront. His track record with Ajax Amsterdam impressed Manchester United.

Even so, Rooney actually favored Pochettino. He considered that the Argentinean was more experienced than Ten Hag.

“Pochettino has worked in the Premier League so he knows this league. If I were to choose between the two, I would choose Pochettino,” Rooney told Sky Sports.

“He will need time and if given time he will do well.”

Manchester United have not found the right manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the last person to be given that trust and failed.

Rooney is optimistic that Pochettino is able to take on this responsibility. He didn’t care even though the tactician’s gait with Paris Saint-Germain wasn’t too good.

“Pochettino is a top manager and he knows how to work with top class players and young players. They need to get the mix right because they can’t fail again,” he added.

Rooney is not the first former Manchester United player to support Pochettino. Gary Neville and Nicky Butt did it first.

Manchester United Performance

On the same occasion, Rooney also commented on Manchester United’s performance this season. He doubts Ralf Rangnick’s side can meet their target of finishing in the top four.

“I have (watched Manchester United) a few times and it looks like they are an individual team. It’s also like they want the season to stop now and forget about qualifying for the Champions League.”

“They won’t be competing next season in the Champions League. They have to rebuild and put themselves in a place, in three years’ time, where they can challenge again for the Premier League title.”
