DBasia.news – Paul Pogba has silenced the critics by his impressive performance in the 2018 World Cup with France national team. Not only performing well with Les Bleus, Pogba also brought his country to win the World Cup for the second time.
So, there’s no need to doubt the quality and contribution that he can give to France. But if we are talking at the club level, Manchester United, Pogba is still under the spotlight due to his performance. He hasn’t shown why he is worth £89M when Man United bought him from Juventus two years ago.
Last season, Pogba’s journey was inconsistent along with debate with Jose Mourinho, Man United manager, related to his best position. He was on the bench and replaced by the other Man United academy alumnus, Scott McTominay.
No wonder, Pogba’s impressive performance in France is still awaited by the supporters ahead of this 2018/2019 season. The club legend, Paul Scholes, gave his support by giving advice from his experience. Scholes was playing as the midfielder.
“But there’s no doubt the lad has real quality, he’s shown it at this World Cup. He can play, he’s such a strong lad – such a strong player – such a fit lad, he can run, great technique as well, great ability. But he needs to use his brain a little bit more to become a top footballer,” Scholes told TalkSport.
Pogba needs one important thing to fulfill the fans’ expectation: playing consistency. He showed this during his performance with Juventus in 2012-2016.
“Paul needs to find a consistency, I think. You look at his game, he can be brilliant one week and not so good the next week. He seems to be a player which you get a performance out of every three to four games,” Scholes added.
“If you’re going to win leagues, that’s not enough, it’s just not enough. He needs to become that commanding player he was at Juventus – he was part of a set structure at Juventus, he knew every week which position he was going to play, who he was going to play with, and I don’t think that has helped him at United,” he concluded.
