Sergi Roberto still wants to be in Barcelona

DBasia.news – Sergi Roberto, Barcelona full-back, emphasized his desire to remain at the Catalan giants.

Roberto’s contract expires at the end of this season after only being given a one-season contract extension last June.

The 30-year-old player is entering his 13th season as a member of Barcelona’s senior squad. However, his playing time have decreased in the last three years due to a series of injuries.

The owner of 11 caps in the Spanish national team at the same time confided in his salary at Barca which was considered inappropriate for senior players, after experiencing cuts after the financial problems that had engulfed the club in recent years.

“Right now I am paid as if I had just moved from Barca B, but I do it proudly because I want to be here. For me the economic problem is not important,” said Sergi Roberto to RAC1, Wednesday (28/12).

“The last few years I didn’t enjoy playing because I wasn’t physically fit. I want to get back to being fit and have fun again.”

“We haven’t started discussions [regarding a new contract], but my wish is to stay. From what the coaching staff has said, they are very happy with me and I want to stay at this club.”

“I would be thrilled to be able to continue, to be able to enjoy myself on the pitch in a Barca jersey,” he added.

This season, Roberto has only made three appearances as a starter in LaLiga. At the right-back post, coach Xavi prefers to play Alejandro Balde.

Promoted from Barca B since 2010, the player has six LaLiga titles and two Champions Leagues among the many prestigious titles.
