DBasia.news – The captain and defender of the Spanish national team, Sergio Ramos, broke the record against Norway in the continuation of the 2020 European Cup Qualifying match. Ramos surpasses the number appearances of Iker Casillas.
Playing at Ullevaal Stadion, Norwegian headquarters, Sunday (13/10) in Week seven of the 2020 European Cup Qualifiers, Spain had to settle for a 1-1 draw after briefly leading from Saul Niguez’s goal in minute 47. Norway evened it in the 90th minute + 4 via goals from Joshua King’s penalty.
These results did not change the position of the Spanish standings in group F. Spain won 19 points, followed by Sweden (14 points), Romania (13 points), Norway (10 points), Malta (three points), and Faroe Islands (without points).
In the next match, Spain will play Sweden at the Friends Arena on Wednesday (10/16) 1:45 AM.
When against Norway, Robert Moreno, coach of the Spanish national team, played Ramos since the beginning of the game. Judging from the data from @Gol, the match became Ramos’ 168 caps and the former Sevilla defender is now ordained as the most performer in the Spanish national team, passing Casillas (167 caps).
“Everything (personal achievement) is a second matter. I would be glad to exchange this 168th caps for a victory. That’s not the problem,” Ramos said after the match, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“Nevertheless the record is a great prize after years (defending the national team) and this is the main source of great pride. I am emotional every time I wear this jersey. This will not change and I hope to continue to do so for years to come,” he hoped.
Ramos, 33, has strengthened Spain since 2005. Ramos also experienced Spain’s glorious era when they won one World Cup title (2010) and two European Cups (2008 and 2012). The winner of four Champions League titles can also still set high standards as he is still a mainstay in the Spanish back line.
