Sevilla president claims Julen Lopetegui turned down a confusing offer from Tottenham

DBasia.news – Sevilla president revealed that coach Julen Lopetegui had turned down a confusing offer that came from Tottenham some time ago. The search for a new manager for the north London club is still ongoing, with several candidates starting to drop out.

Tottenham have failed to make a confusing offer to sign Julen Lopetegui as their new manager according to Sevilla president Jose Castro. The search for a new manager has entered its third month and has yet to find a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho, who was dismissed on April 19.

The north London club are still unable to secure the services of a new manager despite discussing it with several candidates including Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso.

New director of football Fabio Paratici has begun the search for a new manager and is reported to have contacted Lopetegui after he successfully guided Sevilla to next season’s Champions League qualification after finishing fourth in La Liga. However, the Spaniard, who has signed a contract extension this year, prefers to stay in Andalusia.

In an interview with Spanish radio as quoted by Sky Sports, Castro said: “Julen contacted me and said he had offers he had ignored to including the confusing one from Tottenham.

“He said he hasn’t forgotten what has happened here and he is very motivated here, we believed and gave him a two-year contract extension and I’m sure he will give the club even more.

“You see his ability and leadership every day, some coaches are more concerned with the economy but Julen is very clear that he is happy here and has even said it would be difficult to find a better place than here.”

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites players who were not involved in Euro 2020 are ready to report for the pre-season session on July 5 for a fitness session with the staff if a new manager has not been appointed.
