DBasia.news – The 50-year-old Bologna coach, Sinisa Mihajlovic, gave a surprising announcement in front of the media crew. Mihajlovic stated that he was suffering from leukemia.
The news created a public commotion in Italy. However, Mihajlovic, who now trains Bologna, does not want people to pity him and affirms that he will fight Leukemia while continuing his work at Bologna.
“I have cried a lot in the past few days, but I don’t like it when someone approaches me and pity me. It will take time, but I will recover,” Mihajlovic said, quoted by BBC Sport.
“I always play to win, both in football and life. I will beat Leukemia,” he continued.
Support from various parties came directly to the former Yugoslavia national team defender who had coached Fiorentina, the Serbian national team, AC Milan and Sporting Lisbon. Two of them came from Roberto Mancini (Italian national team coach) and Joey Saputo (President of Bologna)
“I know Sinisa Mihajlovic well and I know that he is a man who never gives up. Of course, the news of his illness has surprised us,” Saputo said.
“I want to be known that prayers from my family and I are with Sinija and the people he loves. Mihajlovic has became and will continue to be the coach of Bologna. However, professional problems are a secondary importance here.”
“Sinisa has a great battle to win, and within me, Bologna and the whole city that loves him – he can make sure to find a friend who is ready to fight with him.”
Mancini, who has an emotional bond with Mihajlovic, as they were together as a coach and assistant coach and played together at Lazio, also gave him a motivational boost.
“You are too strong, this (leukemia) will not scare you. After all, we have to play paddleboard afterwards,” added Mancini on Instagram mrmancini10.
