Small Team Kicked PSG from French Coupe de la Ligue

DBasia.news – The giant-killing happened in the French Coupe de la Ligue. French giant Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) got defeated by the small team, Guingamp in the quarter-final.

The defending champion with the glorious squad and high salary couldn’t face Guingamp who just won two times in the Ligue 1 in the bottom table. Interestingly, PSG are unbeaten in the Ligue 1 and stay as the table-topper.

The match went intense and dramatic in Parc des Princes. No wonder, from the tree penalty kicks in that match, it went to Guingamp. Neymar initiated the dominance at 62′ after the first penalty of Marcus Thuram could be anticipated by Alphonse Areola.

Before the match ended, Guingamp utilized the two penalties by Yeni Ngbakoto and Thuram. A familiar name for you? Yes, he is the son of French football icon, Lilian Thuram.

Unlike the father who played as the center-back, Marcus is a striker. Lilian Thuram also supported AS Monaco, Parma, Juventus, and Barcelona. The career was a huge success, especially when winning the Euro (2000) and World Cup (1998) with France national team.

“We played honestly with too much confidence. It’s a bit weird,” said PSG coach Thomas Tuchel to Canal+.

“The second seems questionable. There was nothing (there), it is a (normal) contact between the two players. They entered our box three times and won three penalties.”

The defeat ends the chance of PSG to preserve the title of French Coupe de la Ligue this season. PSG got kicked for the first time since the penalty shootout against AS Saint-Etienne in 2012. In five recent matches, PSG always win it.

PSG lose the local treble winning chance under Thomas Tuchel. PSG could still win the two trophies from Ligue 1 and France Cup, and they are also still struggling in the Champions League.

“We didn’t play with the necessary hunger. We lost the possibility of winning a trophy tonight. But in each defeat, there are things you can learn. It’s hard, but it’s necessary to keep growing, I hope it’s just an accident,” Tuchel added.

“We have to play with more consistency, we didn’t put the right ingredients in. We were too relaxed,” he concluded.
