Solskjaer Defends Martial for being criticized

DBasia.news – Manchester United’s tactician, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, defended Anthony Martial’s performance which received criticism. Solskjaer considered, Martial has worked hard.

Anthony Martial became a player who was considered to have performed poorly when Manchester United were defeated by Sheffield United 2-1 in the 2020-2021 Premier League continued match, at Old Trafford Stadium, Thursday (28/1) WIB.

Sheffield took the lead with a Kean Bryan’s header in the 23rd minute. Then, Harry Maguire equalized in the 64th minute, also with a header. However, Olivier Burke’s goal 10 minutes later again brought the visitors ahead and won the match.

Manchester United actually controled the game. In fact, The Red Devils released 16 opportunities. However, only one goal was scored.

As a result, the Red Devils’ front lines was in the spotlight. Anthony Martial, who received a number of opportunities, failed to complete it into goals. Martial was increasingly cornered for not providing the proper guarding of Sheffield’s second goal.

However, Solskjaer did not see it that way. He didn’t want Martial to be made the black sheep for that defeat.

“Anthony Martial worked very hard in training sessions. He worked on finishing and movement. I have no doubt that he will play well,” said Solskjaer as reported by Goal.

“I think the whole team deserves criticism tonight. Even with me. I don’t think Martial can be free from criticism,” continued the manager.

“Today, we didn’t deliver a ball of sufficient quality. Apart from that, the rhythm, tempo and quality of the pass were not good,” added Solskjaer.

With this minor result, Manchester United can be four points behind Manchester City as long as their rivals achieve the full points against Sheffield United on Saturday (30/1).
