DBasia.news – Fikayo Tomori again received a call to defend the England national team. Gareth Southgate has been fascinated by the 23-year-old defender’s performance with AC Milan.
England coach Gareth Southgate has called AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori for the international break next week. The Three Lions team will face Andorra (10/10) and Hungary in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.
This is the first time Tomori has received a call-up to the England national team since 2019. Tomori himself has only recorded one cap for the England national team, which was when he appeared against Kosovo in the 2020 European Cup Qualifiers in November 2019.
Southgate is interested in entering Tomori again after the former Chelsea player has appeared fairly consistent with AC Milan since last season. Tomori was loaned by the Blues to AC Milan last season for one season. The Rossoneri then redeemed the Canadian-born player permanently for 29 euros at the start of this season.
Tomori has appeared in 30 matches for Il Diavolo with one goal contribution. This season, he has become the main choice of AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli in the heart of defence. Tomori helped Milan sit in second place in Serie A at the moment.
“I’m very impressed. I think he finished last season well,” Southgate said as quoted by Football Italia.
“We watched him last season and he did well this season. He is at a club that should win every week, I think he did well against Liverpool and Juventus.”
England currently tops Group I of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with 16 points from six matches. The Three Lions team has been unbeaten and four points clear of second-placed, Albania.
