DBasia.news – AC Milan’s move in the 2021-2022 Champions League event was tragically halted in the group phase. The coach, Stefano Pioli still sees the positive side of this minor result.
Milan had to lose 1-2 when they hosted Liverpool in the last match of Group B at the San Siro, Wednesday (8/12) morning WIB. Even though the Rossoneri need a win to advance to the top 16.
Milan actually started the game well. Fikayo Tomori opened the scoring for the hosts in the 29th minute using the rebound.
But Milan failed to maintain their lead until the game was over. Liverpool took the lead thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah (36′) and Divock Origi (55′).
Pioli believes the defeat against Liverpool occurred because too many mistakes were made by the Milan players. Unfortunately, things like this also happened in previous matches and has made them be in a difficult position.
“We know this group is challenging, but unfortunately we can’t keep the tempo high enough. We made too many mistakes, which at this level is expensive,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.
“There are regrets, because I think we deserved more, especially against Atletico Madrid and Porto at home. Having said that, it can happen at this level for an inexperienced squad.”
The 2021-2022 season has indeed become the momentum for Milan’s return to appear in the Champions League. City rivals, Inter have missed the last seven editions in a row.
This has made Milan a debutant team in the Champions League. But Pioli wants his team to learn from their mistakes.
“We’ve seen the types of opponents there are in Europe, so we’ll learn from that. Returning to Europe is our goal, but we will try to take lessons from this experience and keep improving.”
“It’s disappointing, but it will help the growth process and we need experiences like this to make us stronger in the future.”
After being eliminated from the Champions League, Milan also were unable to continue their journey to the Europa League. That’s because they ended the group stage as caretaker.
