Stephanie Frappart Becomes the First Female Referee at the 2020 European Cup

France’s Stephanie Frappart will become the first woman to serve in the European Cup after UEFA named her the fourth official at the event.

Previously, Frappart had recorded several achievements as a female referee. Like refereeing Ligue 1 and Champions League matches in December 2020 for the group stage match between Juventus and Dynamo Kiev.

The 37-year-old Frappart was also the first female referee in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup match between Liverpool and Chelsea.

“For the first time, a female official has been selected for the European Cup. Stephanie Frappart, who has officiated at several matches in the men’s club competitions and the UEFA national team this season, will act as the fourth referee at this year’s Euros, “a UEFA statement read.

Each referee team at the event consists of one referee, two assistant referees, one fourth referee and one assistant referee at the stadium, as well as a team consisting of four video match referees.

The 2020 European Cup, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held from 11 June to 11 July.
