DBasia.news – Stephanie Frappart will become the first female referee to officiate in the Champions League.
Frappart was appointed as the main referee in the fifth match of Group G in the Champions League when Juventus hosts Dynamo Kiev, Thursday (3/12) am.
Previously, the referee from France was the main judge in the 2019 Women’s World Cup final when the United States defeated the Netherlands.
In the same year, Frappart was also trusted as the referee in the UEFA Super Cup duel when Liverpool defeated Chelsea on penalties.
This moment also made Frappart the first woman to lead a match in the men’s competition at UEFA level. Now, the 36-year-old referee will mark history once again.
“I spoke with the referee team after the match [and said] that if our performance was like they were leading the match, then we would win 6-0,” said Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp to Frappart and colleagues, after the match.
“They were brilliant. They were good, they were really good. There was pressure on them like hell. It was a historic moment and they remained strong, calm and did what they had to do in a very difficult and intense match,” he stated.
“I have a lot of respect, it was a brilliant performance,” he concluded.
Last October, Frappart also took charge of the Europa League match when Leicester City faced Ukraine’s representative, Zorya Luhansk, at the King Power Stadium.
Last week, the referee, who regularly leads the French Ligue 1 match, was the main judge in the match between Granada vs Cyprus representative, Omonoia Nicosia.
