DBasia.news – The young age of Matthijs de Ligt is one of the reasons why Maurizio Sarri, the Juventus coach, doesn’t really think about his unsatisfactory performance. He also believes that De Ligt still needs time to adjust.
Matthijs de Ligt became a sensation last season after bringing Ajax Amsterdam to the Champions League semifinals. Although still 20 years old, De Ligt has calmness and ability of above average.
Not surprisingly, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus has nudged each other to bring in De Ligt. The fight was finally won by Juve after willing to include a release clause in the contract for the Dutch national team.
Juventus spent up to 85 million euros to Ajax. The value has made De Ligt one of the most expensive defenders in the world with Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk.
Unfortunately, De Ligt has yet to prove to Juve that they were not mistaken for spending high funds to bring him in. Critics say that the Bianconeri has paid too much to recruit De Ligt.
However, Maurizio Sarri did not agree with the criticism addressed to De Ligt. According to him, the transfer market today has made the price of players soar.
“We pay the price of the main defenders and in the modern market. You have to pay a lot to get talented players like Matthijs de Ligt,” Maurizio Sarri said as reported by Calciomercato.
“In the summer, I saw a club that paid more for players who were far more talented than De Ligt,” the coach added.
“He is fine. We must remember De Ligt is still young. He is trying to adjust and that will take time,” said Sarri.
Matthijs de Ligt had the chance to play more after Giorgio Chiellini suffered an injury. Now, he will accompany Leonardo Bonucci in the defense sector.
