Suddenly Sacked, Matheus Fernandes Hurt of Barcelona

DBasia.news – Brazilian midfielder Matheus Fernandes still harbors pain for his former club Barcelona. The reason is the Blaugrana – Barcelona’s nickname – without a direct cut off his contract.

Barcelona signed the 23-year-old from Palmeiras in January 2020 for seven million euros plus a bonus of three million euros. However, throughout the 2020-2021 season Matheus was never in Ronald Koeman’s playing plans.

In the end, Barcelona unilaterally terminated Matheus’ contract in June 2021 and the player, with the status of free agents, returned to Brazil and strengthened Palmeiras. To Globoesporte Matheus told how cruelly Barcelona terminated his contract.

“I didn’t know about it (Barcelona’s termination), and when I received the message I couldn’t believe it,” Matheus told Globoesporte.

“I was at home, I was going out with my wife when a message from the club came asking if I had the same email. I told them yes and then I received it.”

“I didn’t really understand it, it sent it to my agent and my lawyer. They said it was my dismissal. It was a while before it came out in the media.”

“No conversation, nothing; they didn’t even call me to say goodbye.”

It didn’t stop there, Matheus also told how he was treated not like a professional footballer while defending Barcelona.

“As a child I always dreamed of playing for Barcelona,” added Matheus. “When I got there they didn’t treat me like a footballer.”

“I told them they didn’t treat me like a Barcelona player.”

“Regardless of whether I get the eligibility to play a lot or a little, whether the club has done this or that, I am a Barcelona player.”

“Whether I play or not depends on me, on the club and on the other players, but I want them to treat me the same as other players. I am a little annoyed,” said Matheus.
