The Best FIFA Football Awards 2020, Klopp and Lewandowski Wins Award

DBasia.news – The World Football Federation (FIFA) held the Best FIFA Football Awards 2020 on Friday (18/12). Robert Lewandowski and Jurgen Klopp won awards in the two most prestigious categories, player and coach of the year man.

During the pandemic that was still ongoing, this annual program was held online. Instead, FIFA broadcasts this event through its various social media.

Lewandowski completes 2020 with the title of best player in the world. The Bayern Munich attacker outperformed two world superstars, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lewandowski scored 55 goals in 47 games last season. He also led Munich to win the treble winners.

In October, Lewandowski was also named UEFA’s best European player. He is also likely to win the Ballon d’or if one of the most prestigious individual awards is not removed this year.

“If you win an award like this and share the title with Messi and Ronaldo, it is extraordinary and means a lot to me,” said Lewandowski as quoted by the BBC.

“Long time ago, I remember I missed something like this and now I can win this award. It really means, wherever you come, what matters is what you put in it.”

Meanwhile, Lucy Bronze was selected as the best female player. The Manchester City defender beat two of his competitors, Pernille Harder (Netherlands) and Wendie Renard (France).

From the coach category, Jurgen Klopp was chosen to be the best. He defeated Hansi Flick, who brought Munich to dominate Europe this year.

This is the second time in a row, Klopp has been named FIFA’s best coach. Last year he received this award after helping Liverpool win the Champions League.

“I have so many people to thank and most of all my coaching team. If I knew we were going to win it, my coaching team would be here with me because what we did last year was about these kids,” said Klopp.

“We are not dreaming 30 years but we have been dreaming for a few years. It was absolutely incredible and we all had a special year in a way that is unfortunately not very positive but for Liverpool fans at least we can make some highlights in a difficult period.”

Another prestigious award, the Puskas Award for best goal, went to Son Heung-min. The Tottenham Hotspur striker’s solo run goal against Burnley was the most chosen.

The winner of this award is determined by the choice of the captain and national team coach of each FIFA member. In addition, several categories also involve fans and 200 media representatives.
