The Corona Effect, a Number of European Football Matches are Canceled

DBasia.news –  The effect of the Covid-19 virus have been increasing in Europe, especially in Italy, the impact has been quite large in the world of football. One competition that was affected was the Europa League in the match between AS Roma against Sevilla and Getafe against Inter Milan.

Rome was originally to play the first round of the top 16 Europa League against Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Friday (3/13) AM. However, after being confirmed by the Giallorossi – nickname of Rome, the match has been canceled as the Rome squad was banned from entering Spain.

Flights from Italy are prohibited from entering Spain due to fears of passengers carrying the corona virus – the most cases of corona virus in Europe occur in Italy. No exception for the Rome squad under Paulo Fonseca.

“AS Roma will not go to Spain for the Europa League match against Sevilla due to lack of authorization from local authorities. Further details will be announced by UEFA,” tweeted the AS Roma Twitter account.

The match was originally given permission from UEFA to take place without spectators. However, the Spanish government does not want to take risks and prohibit flights from Italy to enter the State of Matador. As a result, Rome’s squad remained in Italy with a situation of postponing the Serie A match until April 3, 2020.

The cancellation of the Rome match against Sevilla following the refusal of Getafe President, Angel Torres, who banned his squad from playing away in Italy against Inter Milan. Torres does not care if his squad is expelled from the competition as for him the most important thing is the health of the squad and not taking risks.

“We will not play, we will not go to Italy, this has been decided,” Torres said as quoted by Football-Espana.

“I can guarantee that we will not travel to Italy. UEFA will decide what will happen next,” he added.

Aside from these two matches, other matches in the last 16 of the Europa League are still going on such as Eintracht Frankfurt against FC Basel, Istanbul Basaksehir against Copenhagen, LASK against Manchester United, Wolfsburg vs. Shakhtar Donetsk, Rangers vs. Bayer Leverkusen, and Olympiakos vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers.
