DBasia.news – Arsenal legend Paul Merson said Alexandre Lacazette’s departure from the Gunners was disappointing. The reason according to Paul, he has great potential but did not fulfill it at Arsenal.
Lacazette’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of this month, and he has agreed to return to France and return to play for Olympique Lyon.
Merson claims the France international should have been able to provide more with the London Meriam.
Lacazette joined Arsenal from Olympique Lyon in 2017. In total, the striker has notched 71 goals and 36 assists in 206 appearances.
The 31-year-old player presented each of the FA Cup and Community Shield titles.
Last season, Lacazette played 36 times in various competitions, scoring six goals and providing eight assists.
Merson was also dissatisfied with this record and emphasized that there was still a lot to improve on the way Lacazette played.
“I don’t think Lacazette ever lived up to his potential at Arsenal,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“He could have done a lot more for the club.”
“He could have done better. It’s true that sometimes he does extraordinary things, which makes you think: ‘Wow, what a player’. But that’s not enough.”
“Really, it’s a disappointing departure. This summer was very important for Arsenal, because they didn’t make it to the Champions League and they had to sign players.”
