The Drama Behind Martin Braithwaite’s Transfer to Barcelona

DBasia.news –  Losing a mainstay player like Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele has made Barcelona must bring in players on an emergency basis. Eventually the Catalonia club officially succeeded in bringing in Martin Braithwaite from Leganes.

Barcelona received permission from LaLiga and the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) to be able to bring in new players outside the transfer market. This is related to the injuries of Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele.

Under the RFEF rules, clubs may indeed apply to bring in players outside the transfer window to fill the position of players who have been injured for more than five months. But the club can only bring in players who currently appear in LaLiga or free agent status.

However, Barcelona’s success in bringing in Braithwaite is considered to be unfair, especially by the Leganes camp. The departure of Braithwaite has made Leganes currently in a difficult position, as they are unable to bring in a substitute.

Braithwaite is a key figure in Leganes’s efforts to avoid relegation, with a record of six goals in 24 appearances or one third of the current total of 18 goals in Leganes.

Moreover, Leganes had previously been left by Youssef En-Neysri, another attacker who was seized by Sevilla in the January transfer window.

“We consider the regulation to be unfair. From Barcelona’s side it is beneficial, but for Leganes it is very damaging,” said Martin Ortega, general manager of Leganes as quoted by Goal International.

Currently Leganes are trying to submit an application to RFEF in order to bring in new attackers to fill the positions left by Braithwaite.
