DBasia.news – Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand advised the former club to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. According to him, it’s the way the striker Calvert-Lewin plays with the Red Devils.
The 24 year old forward’s transformation with Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton has been rapid this season. Calvert-Lewin has scored 19 goals and provided four assists in 32 games in all competitions this season.
Ferdinand, who also works as a football pandit, considers Calvert-Lewin as an ideal candidate to be recruited by MU. Calvert-Lewin could be an option if Edinson Cavani leaves and MU has trouble recruiting Harry Kane or Erling Haaland.
“Look, Dominic Calvert-Lewin for me, I love him. I’ve seen many of Everton’s performances this year and he’s the one that scares the defenders. He’s not a player you want to play week after week. He’s aggressive, he strikes the ball.” Ferdinand stated as quoted from Goal.
“I spoke with Carlo Ancelotti earlier this year and he called (Filippo) Inzaghi and said he didn’t need many chances to score and he scored goals in and around the penalty box.”
“I saw Calvert-Lewin this season and he listened to him, he took it. Obviously, he seems to be a great student in this game and he is starting to put it in his own game.”
“We have seen the rewards he has, he has been in the England squad scoring a lot of goals in and around the penalty area. I think he will be a fantastic signing for Manchester United,” added Ferdinand.
Notes on the Past
Recruiting attackers from Everton is nothing new for Man United. In the past, Man United have brought in Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku who were also attackers.
The difference is that Wayne Rooney underwent a period of success at United under Sir Alex Ferguson and left with a legendary status. Meanwhile Lukaku had a difficult time in Man United after the Ferguson era and left for Inter Milan.
At 24 years old Calvert-Lewin could be an option for Man United. Calvert-Lewin is the ideal attacker to be the target man up front, able to hold the ball and also complete chances from his team-mates.
