The Manager of Leeds United Protests over the European Super League

DBasia.news – Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa also spoke up about the European Super League. Just like the Leeds players, Bielsa staged an anti-European Super League protest.

Marcelo Bielsa admitted that he was not surprised by the existence of the European Super League. “It does not surprise me. The strongest teams get their power from competitions against other teams. Now it looks like they no longer need us to get more money,” he said as quoted by ESPN.

“The method they are using is disposing of those that no longer fulfill their demands. It doesn’t happen in a day or two. Many regulations and rules that limit inequality become more flexible and this situation becomes inevitable,” Bielsa continued.

“There are two sides to this. The most powerful clubs are who they are because of what they generate and the attention they generate. But other teams are very much needed.”

For Bielsa, the emergence of the European Super League is an attempt by wealthy clubs to become more powerful.

“The essence of competition is to help the weak to develop, not to strengthen the already strong. But the logic that applies in the world, including in football, is that the rich are getting richer at the expense of the weak becoming poorer.”

Leeds played Liverpool 1-1 thanks to Diego Llorent’s goal in the 87th minute which snuffed out Liverpool’s winning win through Sadio Mane in the 31st minute.

Prior to the match, Leeds players wore Champions League t-shirts with the message “earn it” which they also wore while warming up on the Elland Road pitch. The shirt also says “Football is for the fans” on the back.
